La XX Conferencia Iberoamericana de Ministras y Ministros de Cultura, celebrada en Bogotá, Colombia en octubre de 2019 decidió declarar el 2020 como el Año Iberoamericano de la Música e instruyó a la Secretaría General Iberoamericana, SEGIB junto a los Programas de Cooperación Cultural especializados, el diseño y desarrollo del plan de actividades.
